Get Your Hands-On the Fundamentals
For New Orthodontic Assistants and Non-Clinical Team Members
Saturday May 1 – 9:15am – 10:45am

Join guest lecturer Lori Garland Parker for this hands-on experience geared towards new orthodontic assistants as well as those non-clinical team members interested in becoming cross-trained. Topics covered are necessary for building a strong foundation in orthodontics. Utilizing typodonts and real orthodontic appliances, intra-oral procedures covered include: elastomeric ligatures, steel ties, continuous ties, power chains, elastic configurations, kobayashi ligatures, coil springs, and changing archwires. Proper patient positioning and assistant posture will be stressed. All participants will be able to work closely with AOA Certified Instructors to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and confidence.

Participants are asked to bring their own instruments for a typical patient set-up: Scaler, Weingart Pliers, Matthieu Plier, Ligature Director, Ligature Cutter, Distal End Cutter, Intra-oral Mirror, Bird Beak Plier.

Orthodontic Photography – What Is Your Doctor Looking For?
Saturday May 1 – 9:30am – 11:00am, 1:15pm – 2:45pm
Sunday May 2 – 1:15pm – 2:45pm, 3:15pm – 4:45pm
(Corresponding lecture – 8:00am – 9:00am)

Participants are invited to attend an intimate hands-on photography course where they will have the opportunity to practice the skills and techniques needed to take quality orthodontic clinical photographs, both intra-oral and extraoral, under the direction of skilled instructors. Participants will also learn to critique photographs to determine the level of quality.

Step It In, Step It Out, What Those Bends Are All About!
Practical Applications of Wire Bending in the Clinical Adjustments of Orthodontic Appliances
Saturday May 1 – 1:15pm – 2:45pm

Join guest lecturer Dr. Myron Guymon for this fun and upbeat course featuring hands-on wire bending exercises as well as a comprehensive introduction to the rationale and clinical application of common wire bends and simple orthodontic mechanics. This class will focus on different bends that clinical assistants may be required to make in orthodontic arch wires and large diameter wires for adjustment of retainers, lip bumpers and headgears. The Trapezio Training Team and senior orthodontic residents will be on hand to make sure the concepts are clearly demonstrated and practiced. This course is a must for any clinical assistant desiring to develop a better understanding of the practice and principles of orthodontic appliance adjustments.

Impress With Impressions HANDS-ON
Sunday May 2 - 9:15am – 11:15am
(Corresponding lecture by Andrea Cook – 8:00am – 9:00am)

Participants will practice the steps in taking alginate and PVS impressions. They will also critique their impressions for high quality. Impressions are a critical portion of orthodontic care. This course is designed to increase quality and consistency within the practice, thus saving the doctor and his/her team valuable time and money.

 What’s All This Racket About Brackets?
Clinical Principles and Practical Applications of Bracket Placement for the Orthodontic Assistant
Sunday May 2 – 1:15pm – 2:45pm, 3:15pm – 4:45pm
(Corresponding lecture by Dr. Myron Guymon - 9:15am – 10:15am)

Proper bracket placement is a critical factor in efficient orthodontic treatment. The orthodontic assistant becomes a more valuable member of the practice team with an understanding of the principles and clinical effects of proper bracket placement and tooth movement. This is a hands-on course to apply the principles and theory presented in an illustrated lecture. Assisted by members of the Trapezio Training Team and orthodontic residents, attendees will practice placing brackets on typodonts to become proficient in placing brackets in an ideal position.

Participants are asked to bring a scaler or explorer, a bracket tweezer, and a bracket height gauage (.018” if possible).
