Dr. Doug Depew

Dr. Doug Depew has maintained a thriving orthodontic practice in Kennesaw, Georgia since 1990. He is a graduate of University of Georgia, Medical College of Georgia – School of Dentistry, and Baylor College of Dentistry – Department of Orthodontics. Dr. Depew is the Academic Director of the Academy of Orthodontic Assisting, and is recognized internationally for his knowledge in the training of orthodontic staff. He is an active member of several dental and orthodontic organizations and is active in the community through involvement in youth sports, schools, and business development.

Ms. Issiac earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University. After college, she worked in corporate sales positions for 15 years. Prior to entering the orthodontic field, she was as a regional trainer and manager for Estée Lauder. She has served as the New Patient Coordinator at Depew Orthodontics since 1996, and has been instrumental in helping the practice grow from an annual production of under ½ million to well over 2 million, in that time. She brings unmatched enthusiasm for orthodontics to help improve your new patient process.

Linda R. Reese, RN, AOAC

Ms. Reese is the Administrative Director of the Academy of Orthodontic Assisting. She has a strong educational background in business and healthcare and has played a crucial role in the development, implementation, and management of the AOA Academy. Joining the AOA team in 1999, Linda has worked diligently to achieve acknowledgment of AOA Academy as a formal education provider culminating in the endorsement of the program by the American Association of Orthodontists. She is a strong advocate of quality education for healthcare auxiliaries and recognition of achievement through established credentials and continuing education requirements.

In athletics, a good coach will periodically take the time to re-visit the very basic skills in their respective sport. In this informative lecture, many of the common procedures we do everyday will be broken down into very fundamental steps in order to improve patient comfort and safety, appointment efficiency, and quality of care. Ergonomics and staff interaction will also be
addressed in order to help make your job more enjoyable.

Biological Basis for How Teeth Move

This lecture helps give orthodontic assistants an understanding of the science behind how teeth move and how they respond to the forces placed on them in the orthodontic office. Types of tooth movement, anchorage, and force application, are some of the topics covered. This energetic presentation is appropriate for both doctors and staff members. It will help staff members understand the new patient process, help New Patient Coordinators and Treatment Coordinators learn valuable sales techniques, and help doctors pinpoint what might be missing in their new patient process. Ms. Issaic will also identify the traits which make a “natural” New Patient Coordinator.

Orthodontic Basics – What Every Team Member Should Know

It is essential that every staff member understand the basics of orthodontics in order to communicate with patients and their parents. How often do you find that you are trying to explain something to a parent, but feel it may not be quite as accurate as it should? Although this course is primarily designed for newer clinical staff and all non-clinical staff, even experienced assistants will find it helpful in understanding the fundamentals of their job.

Are you frustrated in x-rays that are fuzzy, distorted, or otherwise inadequate?  This lecture will teach you proper positioning, machine settings, and other procedures and techniques in taking quality panoramic and cephalometric x-rays that are applicable to any x-ray system.

Sales Techniques in the Orthodontic Practice
